When blogging, I often focus my interests in celebrities, gossip and of course the newest drama. Often time, all of this information seems miles and miles away from me and I am on the outside looking in.
However, as a UConnstudent, I have begun to realize that right around this time of year, any and all UConn students are in the headlines. Yep, you guessed it, for Spring Weekend.
As Spring Weekend has come and gone, I have begun to realize what kind of attention UConn gets. Although perhaps we are not a nation wide phenomenon, certainly the east coast is aware of our presence and all the beauty that comes with Spring Weekend.
However, this year I became much more aware after a phone call from my mother telling me about all the news coverage she’d seen, before and during Spring Weekend in addition to all the hype. She said she couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about it and all her friends kids were on their way up for the weekend.
Maybe UConn, doesn’t really have much around here in Storrs, Conn. but at least we have something. We have the one time of the year where people want to be UConn students and be apart of a community we belong to. There’s so much negativity attached to Spring Weekend, but I’m still a fan. If we can only be known for one thing, and that thing is Spring Weekend, that’s fine with me.
