I’m sorry I just don’t care that Selma Hayeck got her e-mail hacked into or who’s body is beach worthy. So therefore, I will turn to something equally unnewsworthy but at least a little humorous?

However, as a UConnstudent, I have begun to realize that right around this time of year, any and all UConn students are in the headlines. Yep, you guessed it, for Spring Weekend.

As Spring Weekend has come and gone, I have begun to realize what kind of attention UConn gets. Although perhaps we are not a nation wide phenomenon, certainly the east coast is aware of our presence and all the beauty that comes with Spring Weekend.

However, this year I became much more aware after a phone call from my mother telling me about all the news coverage she’d seen, before and during Spring Weekend in addition to all the hype. She said she couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about it and all her friends kids were on their way up for the weekend.

Maybe UConn, doesn’t really have much around here in Storrs, Conn. but at least we have something. We have the one time of the year where people want to be UConn students and be apart of a community we belong to. There’s so much negativity attached to Spring Weekend, but I’m still a fan. If we can only be known for one thing, and that thing is Spring Weekend, that’s fine with me.

Montag, who released a music video awhile back made a fool of herself when pretty much everyone made fun of her awful acting and singing. Now, we get to hear another single by Montag and it’s not much better.

The single, Blackout just proves that Montag’s first try wasn’t bad due to her inexperience but basically due to her crappy singing. I mean, she isn’t the worst singer I’ve ever heard but digitally altering her voice can only help so much. The song sounds mechanical and obviously altered quite a bit to help her voice.

Do record companies really think the public is that stupid? We can tell when someone just plain stinks, and Montag does. She tried to use her reality fame as a gimick to help her career but newsflash, it’s definitely not working.

Gross.

According the celebrityodor, Boyle was offered $1 million dollars to lose her virginity on camera by Kick Ass Pictures. Boyle, 47 admitted to having never been kissed on the british television show, Britain’s Got Talent.

Kick Ass President Mark Kulkis had this to say:

“The logical extension of [having never been kissed] is that she’s still a virgin. We have always wanted to produce a movie in which a bona fide virgin loses her maidenhood on camera. That’s a very personal, intimate moment in a woman’s life. Doing it in front of bright lights and cameras in a San Fernando Valley studio will make it that much more special.”

First of all, I’m pretty sure having sex in front of cameras and lights for the first time is not special and just super awkward for a 47-year old virigin. Regardless, that’s not the point.

The real point is, who would EVER want to see Susan Boyle in a porno? I would gauge my eyes out if I was subjected to that video. Let’s hope for everyboy’s sake that Boyle declines and sticks to what she’s good at, singing.

However, reluctantly I agreed and watched the link for an episode of Britain’s Got Talent. The episode is of 47-year old Susan Boyle, a Scottish woman who looks much older. It’s obvious the audience is mocking her, as well as the judges before her performance. She’s kind of quirky, strange and talks about her cat Pebbles.

Much to everyone’s surprise, when Boyle begins to sing she is fantastic. Simon Cowell is absolutely floored, which I think most people know is rarity. Her singing voice is so unexpected that everyone is clearly shocked.

The sad part is though that we (including me) judged this woman based on her looks alone. No one thought she would be a promising singer because she didn’t look or act the part. It’s a shame Boyle didn’t recognize her talent sooner, because she probabaly could have had a singing career. But better late then never I guess.

Okay, so she’s having another child, that went from new news to old news in my book within like thirty seconds, because honestly who cares. My problem here is with the number of children she keeps becoming mommy for.

First, having seven kids is rough in the first place for any mother. It is hard to give adequate attention and fulfill (socially, mentally, etc) all the needs of that many children. It’s just hard to do. A mother (or father) cannot focus their undivided attention on more than one child as it is, imagine seven. I just don’t think Jolie is being responsible in this case.

You cannot tell me that Jolie and Pitt have all the time in the world to raise their children. Neither of them have taken a break from their careers and I guarantee they have just thrown their kids into a nannies (or seven) hands. I just don’t think that celebrities have the time or focus to have that many children; I’m sure it’s hard enough for parents who aren’t celebrities.

Seeing Jolie adopt and have endless children frustrates me to no end because I am scared to see how they turn out in the future. I feel like they will end up with the whole “my mommy and daddy didn’t pay enough attention to me” syndrome. So perhaps before having another sixteen children, Jolie and Pitt should think how this has an impact on the children they already have.

This past week while President Barack Obama caused a stir when he bowed toAbdullah, the king of Saudi Arabia. When asked to explain the situation, press secretary Robert Gibbs denied that Obama ever bowed. Instead, the white house tried to pull the wool over our eyes and remark that Obama was just taller than the king, and bending over a little.

Now, unless they think the United States population is stupid, it is quite evident from video that Obama does indeed bow to the king. However, despite all the criticism about the incident, if you even want to call it that, I still don’t really see the big deal.

Maybe I am just super liberal, or I try to avoid unnecessary drama but I took Obama’s bow as a gesture of respect for another world leader. Our president was visiting another nation, and I think all he was doing was showing his respect.

I get that a lot of people are trying to argue that a United States leader should never seem like they are inferior to another, but come on. I think if you watch the video it’s pretty obvious that Obama is not bowing down and kissing the kings feet, but merely quickly and politely showing respect, something I’m sure he would expect if someone were visiting our country.

Well, this weekend I managed to plug into an ungodly number of Lifetime movies.

I’m not sure what it is that draws viewers to these movies. They are unbelievably cheesey, often laughable and yet I still tune in.

Most of them focus on th negeatives of life, such as death, divorce, abuse and more but they always seem to have a happy ending.

Perhaps the happy ending is what draws viewers in. We all know that life doesn’t always have the happy endings that you find in movies, but by watching these movies they allow us to believe in them once again.

Whatever the reason people tune in, Lifetime never fails to bring you down before bringing you up again. I still tune in and I still enjoy the cheesy plots and ridiculous acting.

Recently with the economic crisis at hand, people are cutting back, spending less and even selling some of their valued possessions. Downsizing is definitely something the middle and lower classes are feeling the most, but Hollywood celebrities aren’t denying it either.

According to the post, Nicolas Cage had to downsize in some of his expensive purchases. Due to the economic squeeze, Cage decided to sell his Bavarian castle, Schloss Neidstein. The castle has 28 rooms and is located on 395 acres of forest.

I wish could say I felt bad for Cage. I mean, I know he works hard to buy such extravagant homes, but a castle, really? There are so many people across the country who are losing their only homes, I’m not sure I pity him for losing one of his many. Not to mention, I care even less that he had to let the property go after I found out he has another castle in England.

I guess the man really likes his castles…

My newest follower, Jordan Johnson is apparently some kind of musician. Now, unfortunately for him, and maybe I am just out of the loop, but I have never heard of him. However, according to his website and Twitter he struts the red carpet and puts on performances.

Curious about his career I checked out his website, and listened to some of his music and watched some of his music videos.

As for his music, he has a nice voice. However, his voice unfortunately does not match up with his lyrics. If I had to compare him to any set of artists, it would be N’Sync. His style is extremely poppy and my prediction would be that the ideal audience for him would be teen girls. His lyrics, however, do not coinicde with his style of music. The lyrics are set for an older audience, but I have a feeling that older audiences are not going to be into his pop-style voice. If he wants to be taken seriously by older audiences he is going to have to lose the high pitched boy band tecniques.

Second, I was interesting in seeing his music videos after hearing his style of singing. I know it’s mean to say, but I laughed. Rather then trying to create his own videos for his own songs, Johnson interjected himself into celebrities videos, such as Lady Gaga’s, “Poker Face” and Britney Spear’s “Womanizer.” Seriosuly, it is abosulty ridiculous looking. Not only are his parts seriously awkward to watch, but it is completely unoriginal. Johnson, sse a little creativity, come up with your own stuff and never edit celebrities videos again and I guarentee people will be grateful.
